BMW E90 M3 Sedan

By Dr Long

Attempting to widen the appeal – and sales - of its new M3, BMW AG has milked the potency of the M division’s 4.0L V8 into the E90’s 4-door saloon form. However, the resulting M3 Sedan wears the full frontal visage of the E92 coupe (thank goodness for that!) plus the power-domed hood of the M3 coupe. Mechanically identical the M3 Coupe, the M3 sedan naturally pushes 420hp @ 8400rpm while torque is a twisty 400Nm @ 3900rpm.

In essence, the new M3 Sedan rockets from 0 to 100km/h in 4.9sec, just a hair’s breadth slower than the M3 coupe (0.1sec to be exact) but quantitatively zippier than the E60 M5 to the century mark. Top speed is electronically governed at 250km/h. Rumour has it that the new M3 will breach 300km/h if delimited.

Expect to see this super compact-exec saloon in Malaysia sometime next year, to be priced anywhere between the 335i Coupe (RM468,000) and the uber-saloon E60 M5 (RM898,000). Your guess is as good as mine how much it will be!
